Known as “The Queen City of the South” the City of Cebu is the second largest city in the Philippines with a population of approximately 800,000. It is not overly populated as opposed to other world wide cities. The capital city of The Philippines, Manila has a population of approximately 1.6 million, twice the population of Cebu City. Cebu City is the capital of Cebu island, just one of the 7,107 islands found here in the Philippines.

Week days in Cebu City are a headache for travelling in and around the city. The majority of traffic in Cebu City comprises of jeepneys (small public service vehicles, like buses) and taxis. Without doubt a motorbike is the only way to whizz around the city and avoid the long traffic queues. Riding a motorbike is also the cheapest form of transport with the exception of the jeepneys.

However, a jeepney journey can be quite long as they are constantly stopping to either pick up new passengers or drop off passengers already on board. There is practically no ‘road rage’ here but you can expect a lot of horn blowing from other vehicles, especially the jeepney drivers. The horn blowing is NOT an offensive gesture – it’s more of a ‘get out of my way’ request.

From the centre of Cebu City to the outskirts will take you no more than 10 minutes on a motorbike. From here you can travel North or South and explore the many small towns and villages dotted along the coastline with their beautiful tropical beaches. Pure paradise.
